Veranstaltungstyp:

Beschreibung:
In the last decade, the role of men in institutional education of children has been discussed worldwide. International institutions as well as a majority of ECE center leaders, practitioners and parents support the aim of a better gender balance in the ECEC workforce. This module focuses on international research and practice on gender balance in ECEC. Based on recent research, the role of adults’ gender for children’s development, and for gender equality in ECEC, will be discussed.
The seminar will give insights into ongoing international research projects. Differences between educational systems in several European countries will be taken into account. Finally, students will report experiences from their practice institutions in Germany regarding gender balance.
Students will read and prepare English journal articles for discussion. Main focus will be exchange of ideas and joint discussion, not lecture. Students should have at least a basic knowledge of English. Nevertheless, it is not necessary to speak or read English very well – but you have to spend some time on reading, and should be willing to talk and argue even if you are not sure about the right words for questions and rationales.
The module shall enable participants to deal with scientific articles in English language and encourage participants to seek contact to colleagues in other countries.
